The Challenge That Inspired Hyperspectral Intelligence
Hyperspectral Intelligence was founded in 2016 by Michelle, Derek, and Ralf. While working with hyperspectral data in both field and lab environments, they realized that conventional hyperspectral technology was falling short. Single-point measurement systems couldn’t capture enough data to produce meaningful results, while bulky imaging systems generated overwhelming amounts of low-quality data at high cost.
On the processing side, the common mineral-matching approach was also unreliable. It failed for many rock types, producing inconsistent outputs that risked undermining trust in the field of hyperspectral scanning systems. Frustrated by these limitations, the founders decided to build something better from scratch.
This led to two key breakthroughs: hardware innovations such as the geoLOGr® hyperspectral rock analyzer and the Hyperspectral Handheld Scanner™ (HHS), and the development of the Lithotype™ Method—a completely new approach to hyperspectral data processing. Together, these solutions created a path to accurate, reproducible, and cost-effective rock analyses for mining, energy, and environmental applications.
Our Mission and Values
Advancing Hyperspectral Technology with Integrity
At Hyperspectral Intelligence, our mission is to make advanced hyperspectral technology accessible, reliable, and impactful for real-world operations. We carry forward the principles of scientific integrity, rigorous testing, and client impact in everything we do.
Our values include:
Scientific Integrity
Every dataset follows strict QA/QC protocols.
Client Impact
Systems and services designed to create measurable improvements in operations.
Accessibility
Keeping costs low so spectroscopy becomes the Swiss knife of rock analytics rather than an expensive, niche tool.
By combining academic rigor with industry-ready solutions, we ensure that hyperspectral technology is not only cutting-edge but also practical for field deployment.

Global Impact, Lean Team
Hyperspectral Intelligence has delivered more than 110 deployments across five continents, supporting mining, energy, and environmental projects with accurate, reproducible results. Our systems are trusted by multinational mining companies, research institutions, and government partners worldwide.
By keeping our team agile, we can operate efficiently without compromising quality. This is possible through automation in hyperspectral data processing and the miniaturization of hardware, which allow us to scale globally while keeping operations streamlined.
For customers, the benefits are clear:
Lower Costs
A lean structure keeps pricing competitive, making hyperspectral technology more widely accessible.
Greater Adoption
Spectroscopy becomes a practical, everyday tool for exploration and operations, rather than an expensive specialty system.
Efficiency At Scale
Automation and hardware design improvements mean we deliver faster results with consistent quality across global projects.
Staying lean doesn’t mean sacrificing impact—it ensures that advanced hyperspectral technology can deliver global results while maintaining precision, scientific rigor, and real-world value.
